Getting a handle on it
We didn’t realize it has been four weeks since our last update as time doesn’t seem to move linearly these days. But, we are happy to report that after a few weeks of medication adjustments and constant attention by the whole medical team, Juliana’s pain and discomfort are being managed more successfully. We know that this will be a moving target going forward as the cancer progresses and changes, but in the meantime, are breathing a little easier seeing her experience relief

Pivot
A lot has changed in a few short weeks. Since my last post, there’s been an increase of acute pain in Juliana’s back, side and hips plus she has been experiencing an increase in itchiness all over her body. She feels bloated and full after eating the smallest amount of food, making eating a generally unpleasant experience. She met with a nurse practitioner, a urologist, palliative care and has had multiple blood draws and scans to help her team figure out the cause and potent

New Year, New Plan
When Juliana puts her mind to something, she figures out how to make it happen. Week 1, marked by treatment, begins a slowing of all the things: food intake becomes challenging, medications cause an evasion of sleep, brain feels scrambled and stamina slowly declines. Week 2 pretty much sucks, plain and simple. Bones ache, nausea lives under the surface and if a rash

Moving forward
Last week, we arrived at the first big benchmark since Juliana’s diagnosis in August. The plan she agreed to take from the beginning was to undergo three rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a CT scan to check the effectiveness of the treatment. Knowing how quickly and aggressively the cancer metastasized, the doctor’s best hope and goal of treatment from the onset was only to slow or stop the spread of the cancer; reduction in tumor growth was not a stated goal, although a ho
