It is with shattered hearts we share that Juliana passed away in the early hours on Sunday August 16, 2026. She was 45 years old.

Last Tuesday we made the decision to move her to a hospice facility to help better manage her pain. The facility was lovely with large gardens and open spaces, space for family and friends. Her room was large with a door to the outside and windows looking out onto green space; a hummingbird feeder just outside the window. Koda was with her each day she was there. We finally were able to get her more comfortable, a huge relief to us all.

My mom and I were with her in those last hours. I believe she finally accepted that her community will continue to take care of each other and it was no longer her responsibility to care for each of us individually, something she took such pride in doing. 

As was her wish, we will not have a funeral, but instead will plan a large celebration of life party in the coming weeks. All will be welcomed. I will share details as they are available so that you can make arrangements to join us.

As someone who spent her career helping organizations raise money, Juliana asked that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either Fred Hutch Cancer Center, who took such amazing care of her, or her beloved KEXP radio station. If you ever visited Juliana at her home, you know she had it playing all day long and was an avid supporter of their programming.
