Getting a handle on it

We didn’t realize it has been four weeks since our last update as time doesn’t seem to move linearly these days. But, we are happy to report that after a few weeks of medication adjustments and constant attention by the whole medical team, Juliana’s pain and discomfort are being managed more successfully. We know that this will be a moving target going forward as the cancer progresses and changes, but in the meantime, are breathing a little easier seeing her experience relief.
It was difficult to determine how she reacted to the first of the four rounds of chemo as we were just starting to get a handle on the pain and discomfort while also trying to figure out the side effects of the treatment. The second treatment seemed to come quickly, with only two weeks between, but with her pain controlled, we were able to better decipher the effects. Besides increased nausea and fatigue, Juliana has experienced an acute sensitivity to cold starting the day of treatment. This sensitivity makes it almost impossible for her to get items out of the fridge, and requires room temp or warm drinks and food only. Being that it is winter in Seattle, going outside requires even more bundling and as such, has been a rare occurrence. However, it seemed that by day 4 or 5 after treatment, Juliana was feeling well enough to see loved ones from the comfort of her couch. Each day since, she has had a little more energy and stamina with which to engage, laugh, eat and even walk around the block with the dog. This upward trend has continued over the past week, much to our relief.
Juliana has her third round of treatment this week with new scans scheduled for the following week.
We continue to bear witness to all the love that continues to be bestowed upon Juliana from loved ones near and far. The unwavering support is humbling and a true testament to the significant imprint she has made on so many people’s lives and hearts. We are incredibly grateful for this vast community and how this collective energy feeds Juliana’s spirit, even on the hardest of days. Thank you for keeping all of us in your thoughts and sending so much love our way.
